I played this game for the first time in 2017 when it was free on the playstation store, and 11 year old me really enjoyed shooting, blowing up, burning, chopping the Zeds in this game, which felt really unique and fresh at the time.

Fast forward seven years and I still play this (imo) very underappreciated wave based zombie shooter quite regularly, and I still find it extremely enjoyable.

The overall gunplay is very satisfying, the way guns look, sound, and feel is great, there are almost no guns (within their respective game periods) that feel weak or underperforming, and if you get the armory expansion in sale, you get a ton of new fun weapons to kill zeds with, wich adds some needed variety in your arsenal of weapons, without costing too much.
(*ahem* the singular weapon packs *ahem*)

I would almost call the game a hero shooter with the difference that perks bring to each player, with each perk having it's own weapons, grenades, ability, stats, and set of skills you can configure. And on top of that, a lot of zeds have weaknesses and resitances to certain types of weapons, so having a varied team is necessary if you want to have a chance at survival on the higher difficulties.
My most played classes are Medic and Gunslinger.
Medic because I like being a medic in almost every role-based game, and being in charge of keeping everyone alive gives me a rush that other perks don't often give.
And gunslinger because of how satisfying the perk feels as a whole, the guns, reload animation, movement speed, the "rack em' up" skill which makes popping heads even better, it's just a very satisfying way to play the game.

An unpopular opinion I have about this game, is that I like the cosmetics, a lot. Of course cosmetics shouldn't be the focus content of a game, but they don't feel like they are, they're just a fun addition to an already fun game. And through the steam market you can often get a completely decorated character for €1. Now I run around, shooting zeds with a shark on my head, or a cat on my back, a reflective green outfit, cat-eye goggles, or as a robot. I love character customization in general, and the customization in this game is, in my opinion at least, very fun.

One thing that also deserves it's own highlight is the first person reload animations in this game, because wow the devs really put some effort into these.
Not only are all reload animations at 200 FPS, but with most of the perks you can level up your reload speed with the matching perk weapons, which by itself is not that special, But! What these devs have done is made 2-4 different animations for all guns depending on your perk level! That's so cool! and with the prestige mechanic for perks, you can often see your character "getting better" at reloading as you level up, which is pretty cool.

Also the variety of zeds and bosses is pretty fun, and with different perks being better at dealing with different zeds, the teamplay in this game is often very nice. Although there are SOME zeds that are NOT SO FUN. (*AHEM* EDARS *AHEM*) There are certain combinations of maps, bosses and party size that make some bosses pushovers (literally with abomination) and some near impossible.
Also the difficulty difference between maps is insane sometimes, inside-hallway-maps have the constant danger of being shoved in a corner and instakilled, while some outside maps are so easy that it gets boring.
Of course most maps fall outside of this example, and are a mix of indoors and outdoors, making them a good mix of safer and more dangerous zones, but not mentioning the unbalanced ones would feel unfair.
And a truly unfair bossfight happens maybe once per 20 matches, other deaths are 99% skill issue.

So the game has its issues but I still love it, I've played it on and off for 7 years now, and I think I'll keep doing that for a while, also the devs or publisher (i forgor) fired their CEO for being against abortions, which is pretty fucking cool.

Final Score: 8/10
